Dcu St Clare’s Sports Grounds involved the development of new elite outdoor training facilities at the DCU sports campus in Glasnevin, Dublin where existing facilities on the site were ageing and the space was underutilised.  The new works included a full size artificial GAA pitch with 3G surface that matches the dimensions of the pitch at Croke Park.

Upgrades were carried out to the floodlighting and spectator facilities along with new track and field training facilities including a 60m sprint track, long jump pit and practice hammer throwing area. Enhancements were carried out to the changing Pavilion, landscaping and car parking along with infrastructure works. Relocation of an existing grass GAA pitch elsewhere on the site were also included in the scope of works.

The upgraded additional floodlighting required detailed modelling and assessment of lighting to achieve target lighting levels on the playing surfaces whilst at the same time minimising light spill at the boundaries to the neighbouring residential properties.

The project was delivered under the Public Works Minor Building and Civil Engineering Works designed by the Employer. The project was completed in 2014 and has proved to be a significant enhancement of the University’s overall sports provision.
