Demesne Architects led the design team for the delivery of a new flagship retail warehouse for sports goods retail company Decathlon, at a landmark site in North Dublin. The store is also Decathlon’s business headquarters. The brief included 4000m2 of retail floor space, over 700m2 of office accommodation for the administrative operation as well as indoor and outdoor sports play areas, parking, landscape works and site infrastructure.
As this was Decathlon’s first store in Ireland it was necessary to establish a new supply chain.
The team delivered the building to the required quality within an ambitious 7 month construction programme that at the same time remained true to the concept and brand values of the Company. To achieve all of these outcomes required close collaboration between the design and construction teams with Decathlon retail partners and teams in Ireland and France.
Enhanced Customer Experience
Living Wall and Sustainable Environmental Design
Design features for the project include a large green ‘living wall’ feature over the main entrance in addition to an enhanced landscaping scheme to welcome customers and promote strong synergies with nature. Environmental sustainability was at the heart of the project with over 20% of the building’s energy provided from renewable sources, enhanced biodiversity for the site landscaping and a target BREEAM rating of Very Good.
